This music isn’t likened by a lot of people. Specifically because of its angry and obscure sound. My influence with this music stretched back to as far as the late 90s. Could be mid, I am not entirely sure. My memory gets foggy, and with the amount of abused I’ve caused to my body, it really is a miracle from God Himself that I am able to function and do as well as I can into my 40s.
I believe the purpose of this music is evident and clear, and that is to reach the unreachable. A good majority of people, will only listen to things that please their appetites. Particularly in the cases of the flesh. Paul speaks on numerous occasions concerning the flesh and sin.
I am not your bible study, it doesn’t do me any good to go and spout verses arbitrarily here. Its up to you, to study it and do it yourself. My interest in the bible didn’t come easy. I read the words, and they didn’t resonate with my heart. The soul and spirit are real corporeal things that every human being has. I believe the spirit itself is how we can communicate with God.
I am losing my focus, but I want to be clear. If this music comes off as unappealing, that is fine. Don’t listen to it.
In terms of this band, its hard to them in any one category. For me, they sound an awful lot like Black Dahlia Murder. And I was never much a fan of them.
(this next bit might offend some, so let me preface it with another Trevor. That being myself, I was a coward too once. I looked for every corner and every avenue for a way to end my life. It was like the very thing that was keeping me alive, was learning a new and more convenient way to kill myself. After failing more than succeeding, I started to learn my life here does have a purpose.)
Trevor the vocalist was a coward, not unlike the majority of death and black metal fans. They stand for nothing, and fall for everything. More specifically they stand for hate, rebellion and death. They hate themselves, and they hate you. And worst of all, they are beginning to hate christians. They want to watch the world burn.
I did like begin to like Trevor, but not for his music. I started to like him, because I was seeing that shared we a lot of the same interests. But wouldn’t you know it, right when I was starting to get to know and like the person, he goes and kills himself.
See I am not a stranger to hard music. This incident here is not rare at all. I think a good deal of the reason why our culture is failing is because of the art and entertainment we consume. I always was against this idea, and stance, because I didn’t think it was anyone’s business what kind of things I consume.
You have to have a moral compass. And that is where God and the bible will transform you. Believe me, it took decades for my thick skull to get this and understand it, truthfully. I still fail and fumble, I am not a perfect person. But I strive every day to be one.
And on the topic of this music, and hard music in general. I think its very hypocritical of the church to demand anyone how to express their love of God. Or in the case of harder music, maybe how to express their hatred for sin.
Emotions are a trap, and that is where you need to grow some skin. Otherwise, you will get lost in them, and start moving in the flow of them.
